When asked to review Kerry Watson’s book, "osCommerce User’s Manual: A Guide for Store Owners and Website Developers" for a client, I was at first skeptical. However on closer examination I began to see a plethora of knowledge it had taken me two years to accumulate.

For the layperson, it is loaded with simple and easy to understand examples of what to do and how. More importantly however, it also explains exactly what not to do. osCommerce, written in PHP, can be a daunting beast to the un-initiated. This book makes it easy to add to, remove or make changes to a PHP written application without having to know any PHP at all.

For web developers, it does a great job of covering most of the advanced concepts as well. This will give you, the web developer a real head start and can greatly speed up the development time of your clients' osCommerce shops. This can only serve to lower your time requirements to completion and thereby increase your profits. Covering advanced techniques it took me years to learn, it will have you modifying, producing custom templates and installing contributions ten times faster than without it.

As an osCommerce expert I work with osCommerce everyday. I know the pitfalls that you can find yourself in. I wrote the last five revisions of the Linkpoint Payment Gateway and have written, modified and installed thousands of custom written and stock contributions. Trust me when I say that this book is something no store owner, or web developer should find themselves without.
